German newspaper claims Liverpool submit €83m bid for Naby Keita

Reports in Germany on Monday night claim Liverpool have submitted a third bid for Naby Keita, this time offering RB Leipzig €83 million (£74.2 million) for the midfielder.

Keita, who was involved in a training ground altercation earlier on Monday after fouling a team mate, has been the subject of two bids from Liverpool already this summer – of £57 million and £66 million, both of which have been rejected by the German club.

That second bid was rejected late last week and reports then claimed a third and final offer of £75 million was being considered by the Reds’ hierarchy.

That bid has seemingly been made, according to German newspaper Bild.

It’s worth noting that Bild were first to report previous bids and have, in general, been correct on movements in this saga this summer.

Reports last week claimed that Liverpool’s final offer will include £40 million to be paid up front.

All big money deals involve instalments and often the terms of payment are what prolong big money moves.

Keita, 22, has a £48 million release clause which can be activated next summer. Leipzig had been hoping to persuade him to sign a new contract in order to remove that release clause, but the Guinean appears keen to move to Merseyside and his frustrations seemingly boiled over in training on Monday.

Jurgen Klopp‘s squad are currently back on Merseyside after a week in Hong Kong, but travel to Germany on Wednesday, where they play three games and spend a 10-day training camp outside of Munich.
