Working Session with Her Excellency Ms. Christine N. Umutoni, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Representative



The Minister of Justice, Hon. Maneesh Gobin, had a working session, on Friday 27th of July, with Her Excellency Ms. Christine N. Umutoni, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Representative in Mauritius, and Mrs Doorgawatee Ram-Gopal, Head of the RC Office.

The harmonization of human rights reporting with SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) reporting was the main subject of discussion between the two parties.

“Mauritius is known for its timely Human Rights reporting as well as the quality of the reporting by the OHCHR which can be showcased as a best practice to the rest of the world”, said Ms. Umutoni.

She also briefed the Minister on the roadmap to roll out a UN and Government of Mauritius Strategic Partnership Framework.  A Strategic Prioritisation retreat bringing together the national stakeholders and the UN country team is scheduled in early September.  The retreat will be facilitated by a team of experts of the UN Development Group.

She also informed the Minister of the upcoming AfrAsia Bank Sustainability Summit, which is being organized with the support of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office for Mauritius and which is scheduled for 11 and 12 October. “Oriented towards Goal 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, we want to signal the private sector has an important role to play in the implementation of the SDGs”, she further added.

The Minister was also briefed on the series of events planned to mark the UN Day Celebrations (celebrated on 24th October) this year.

The Minister thanked Ms Umutoni for the excellent working relationship between her Office and the various institutions of Government.
