Les principales décisions du Conseil des ministres



Le Conseil des ministres s’est réuni ce jeudi 16 août sous l’égide du Premier ministre, Pravind Jugnauth, et plusieurs décisions ont été prises lors la réunion qui s’est tenue au Bureau du Premier ministre à Port-Louis.

En voici les décisions prises par le Conseil des ministres de ce jeudi 16 août :

  1. Cabinet has agreed to the restructuring of the National Transport Authority (NTA) and the setting up of a new unit to regulate rail operations, in connection with the coming into operation of the Metro Express as from next year. The functions of the re-structured NTA would include the setting up of standards and the regulatory framework for the operation of road and rail vehicles, including the technical requirements and safety aspects. It would be also responsible for the issue of licenses and enforcement.

 

  1. Cabinet has agreed to the signing of an Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Mauritius and the Government of the Republic of Mozambique on the Transfer of Prisoners. The Agreement includes, among others, the:

(a)       general provisions for the transfer of sentenced persons;

(b)       conditions for transfer;

(c)       consent of the sentenced person and its verification; and

(d)       cost implications in relation to a transfer.

 

  1. Cabinet has agreed to Mauritius signing the Windhoek Declaration on Eliminating Malaria in the SADC region. The Declaration focuses, among others, on:

(a)       firmly placing regional malaria elimination on the agenda of all Member States;

(b)       intensifying resource mobilisation;

(c)       promoting a supportive policy and legislative environment for malaria elimination; and

(d)       reinforcing accountability among Member States to accelerate and achieve regional malaria elimination.

 

  1. Cabinet has agreed to the renewal of the Executive Programme for the years 2018 to 2020 under the Cultural Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Mauritius and the Government of the People’s Republic of China.The Executive Programme provides for cultural cooperation in different fields and includes:
  • exchanges of performing arts troupes;
  • holding of arts and crafts exhibitions; and
  • cooperation and professional exchanges in archives, heritage, museums and cinema.

 

 

  1. Cabinet has taken note that the Ministry of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare would organize the ‘Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Ministerial Conference on Women’s Economic Empowerment: A pre-requisite for Sustainable Development’, on
    28 and 29 August 2018. The objectives of the Conference are, inter alia, to:

 

(a)       launch the Working Group on Women’s Economic Empowerment as set out in the IORA Action Plan for 2017-2021;

 

(b)       bring together IORA Ministers in-charge of the portfolio of Gender/Women’s Affairs on a common platform to discuss the pertinence of mainstreaming gender in priority areas identified by IORA and define key strategies that would promote greater cooperation and prosperity;

(c)       identify and formulate gender-responsive initiatives and strategies to be implemented by the Working Group on Women’s Economic Empowerment in a bid to address gender gaps in the IORA priority intervention areas and the Blue Economy; and

(d)       foster information and knowledge sharing on policies, programmes, initiatives and best practices that promote economic empowerment of women.

The Conference would also lead to the finalisation and adoption of the Work Plan of the             Working Group on Women’s Economic Empowerment.

 

  1. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the recent mission of the Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation to Singapore where he participated in the World Artificial Intelligence Show and the World Blockchain Summit. The main objectives of the Summit were, inter alia, to:

(a)      measure the advent of Artificial Intelligence into the Asia-Pacific market and how Governmental operations and industries are geared for this change;

(b)       elaborate on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the context of multiple intelligence theory;

(c)       show how Artificial Intelligence has transformed the surveillance and security, automotive and manufacturing industries;

(d)       elaborate on virtual and augmented reality technology enhanced learning for smart education; and

(e)       assess the legal and regulatory landscape of Blockchain, cryptocurrency and the role of Governments and regulator.

Discussions focused on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on commercial applications and the revolutionary ways it can transform businesses and Government functions.
