Manchester United submit £54m bid for Juventus star Douglas Costa

Manchester United have placed a £54million bid for Brazil and Juventus winger Douglas Costa, according to reports in Italy.

The Brazilian was on the club’s radar last summer but Jose Mourinho wanted his board to focus their attention on signing a centre-back rather than another forward.

However, Mourinho’s departure last week has paved the way for the club to reignite their interest in Costa and Rai Sport claim United have submitted a bid in the region of £54m.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as caretaker boss and, though he will not be given final say on transfers, the Norwegian has been consulted over a move for Costa.

They value Costa at closer to £70m and the Italian giants are under no pressure to sell.

Juventus are interested in re-signing Paul Pogba but Mourinho’s departure may convince the Frenchman to stay at Old Trafford.

The club will consult Solskjaer over their moves in January but will be purchasing players with a view for the next manager who arrives in the summer.
