Population

As at 31 December 2017, the population of the Republic of Mauritius stood at 1,265,309 representing an increase of 1489 persons over the population at 31 December 2016.

Island-wise, the population as at 31 December 2017 was as follows:

Live Births

The number of live births registered during the year 2017 was 13,479, that is, 397 more than in year 2016.

Deaths

There were 10,140 deaths registered during the year 2017 as compared to 10,174 in year 2016.

Infant Deaths

The number of infant deaths registered during the year 2017 was 164 against 154 in year 2016.

Still Births

The number of still births registered during the year 2017 was 135 compared to 127 in year 2016.

Marriages

The number of marriages registered in the year 2017 was 9,757 compared to 10,042 in year 2016.
