Vaccination…la haut commissaire de l’Inde, Nandini Singla et la première dame du pays, Kobita Jugnauth ont reçu leurs doses de vaccine Covaxin ce lundi au gymnase Pandit Sahadeo.
COVID-19: India to make special efforts for the supply of vaccines to Mauritius·The Republic of India will make special efforts to ensure that Mauritius continues to get a regular supply of vaccines against COVID-19. The COVAXIN vaccine is safe and has been administered to over nine million persons including the Indian Prime Minister, Mr. N. Modi.·
This statement was made today by the Indian High-Commissioner, Mrs. Nandini Singla, at the Pandit Sahadeo Gymnasium in Vacoas at the official introduction of the use of the COVAXIN vaccine into the national vaccination programme. The First Lady, Mrs. Kobita Jugnauth, also present, was amongst the first to be inoculated with this vaccine.·
High-Commissioner Singla underscored that COVAXIN is developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and has demonstrated an interim vaccine efficacy of 81 % in the Phase 3 clinical trials and was approved for emergency use in India in January 2021.·
Mrs. Jugnauth seized the opportunity to express her gratitude towards the Government of India for its help and support to provide Mauritius with regular supplies of vaccine against COVID-19. She appealed to the population to get their first jab of the vaccine.·
It is to be recalled that Mauritius received a consignment of 200,000 doses of COVAXIN purchased by the Ministry of Health and Wellness from India which reached Mauritius on 19 March 2021. It is now being used in the National Vaccination Programme after 100 000 doses of the AstraZeneca have already been administered.
