TORRENTIAL RAIN WARNING
In view of the torrential rainfall prevailing in the country and the Torrential Rain Warning issued by the Mauritius Meteorological Service, the National Emergency Operations Command is issuing an Order under the NDRRMC Act stating that public sector employees, other than those working in essential services, as well as private sector employees should NOT report for duty today Friday 27 January 2023.
The public is advised to stay indoors and not to venture near Risk Prone Areas.
Work from home, wherever possible is strongly recommended.
The NEOC will shortly issue an official communiqué.

A torrential rain warning for Mauritius issued at 04h30 this Friday 27 January 2023.
A torrential rain warning remains in force in Mauritius.
Other active clouds associated with the instability zone continue to influence the weather over the island.
Several stations around the island have recorded moderate to heavy rainfall as from yesterday afternoon and during the night.
Stations with highest rainfall in the last 12 hours up to 04h00 this morning are as follows:

Chitrakoot: 75 mm
Moka: 91 mm
Mon Bois: 91 mm
Mon Loisir Rouillard: 45 mm
Nouvelle Découverte: 78 mm
Plaisance: 103 mm
Quatres Bornes: 99 mm
Queen Victoria: 43 mm
Riche en Eau: 86 mm
Rose- Belle: 89 mm
Rivière des Anguilles: 72 mm
Rivière Noire: 52 mm
Vacoas: 123 mm
Wooton: 127 mm
These moderate to heavy rains will persist this morning and during the day accompanied by thunderstorms.
A torrential rainfall warning is in force in Mauritius.
Some rivers and watercourses will remain flooded. There will also be water accumulation and fog patches in several regions.
The public is advised to:
- Remain in safe places and avoid open areas, hikings, sea ventures and sheltering under trees during thunderstorms.
- Avoid places prone to water accumulation, river banks and other water courses.
- Be very cautious on the roads due to reduced visibility.
