Anil Bachoo: “I will do whatever is necessary to ensure that no patient is left without care”
Over the past two days, many doctors at SAJ Hospital have chosen not to perform overtime duties. It is their right and no one can compel them to work beyond their normal hours. But the reality is that this decision has left patients, infants, children, young and old alike, waiting for hours in pain and distress. As Minister, I cannot remain indifferent to such a situation. I have to act. I have to take decisions. I cannot allow our people to be left without care when they need it most.
That is why I have made an appeal to doctors from other hospitals to step in and provide support at SAJ Hospital to ensure services run smoothly and reliably. I want to assure the public that this issue will be resolved soon. I ask for your patience for just a little while longer, because I will never abandon the patients of this country.
This situation is limited to SAJ Hospital. Across the country, in every other hospital, our doctors continue to serve diligently, doing their overtime as they always have. To them, I extend my deepest gratitude. Their sense of responsibility and patriotism is a source of strength for Mauritius.
My commitment has always been and will always remain to the people. I will do whatever is necessary to ensure that no patient is left without care, and that compassion, discipline, and professionalism are the guiding principles of our health system.
