EXECUTIVE COUNCIL DECISIONS – 18th May 2018

The Executive Council met at 09.00 hours this Friday 18th May 2018
under the chairmanship of the Chief Commissioner,

Mr. Louis Serge CLAIR, GCSK

1. The Executive Council has agreed that the Commission for Tourism organizes the
fifth edition of “La Tournée Rodriguaise” in Mauritius and Reunion Island from 14
to 22 June 2018. The “Tournée” will comprise of roadshows, workshops/meetings
to promote the destination to potential visitors and tourism stakeholders.
2. The Executive Council has agreed that the Commission for Public Infrastructure
submits a request to the Minister of Public infrastructure and land Transport for
the making of regulations for the gazetting of main roads in Rodrigues.
3. The Executive Council has agreed that the Commission for Transport submit a
request to the National Transport Authority for the launching of a Request for
Proposal for the setting up of a private Vehicle Examination Centre in Rodrigues in
line with the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act 2016 and the Road Traffic
(Examination of Motor Vehicles and Trailers) Regulation 2016.
4. The Executive Council has agreed that the Commission for Women Affairs
organizes the second edition of the Indian Ocean Inter Island Women’s Games
2019 during the month of March 2019.
5. The Executive Council has taken note that the Commission for Public
Infrastructure will install street lighting in the different villages in Rodrigues. Some
450 lamps have been procured for that purpose.

6. The Executive Council has taken note of the status with regards to the
programme Diploma Fisheries and Forestry delivered in Rodrigues by the
University of Mauritius for fifty-five (55) officers of the Rodrigues Regional
Assembly. The course is reaching its end and the final examinations will start from
Monday 21 to Monday 28 May 2018. The exams result is tentatively scheduled for
04 June 2018 and graduation ceremony for Monday 11 June 2018 at the Cultural
and Leisure Centre, Mon Plaisir.
7. The Executive Council has taken note that the Commission for Vocational Training
is launching call for applications for the Rodrigues Regional Assembly Technical
Field Scholarships Scheme.
8. The Executive Council has taken note that the Commission for Agriculture has
awarded contract for the construction of a Compost Centre at Oyster Bay. The
project aims at providing a proper space for the management of green wastes
and producing compost for use in agriculture.
9. The Executive Council has taken note that the Commission for Fisheries is
procuring a telescope and life jackets for use by the South East Marine Protected
Area (SEMPA). The project aims at equipping the marine park with equipment for
better surveillance in its fight against illegal fishing and to provide more security
to officers and visitors of SEMPA while venturing at sea.
10. The Executive Council has taken note that the Commission for Arts and Culture is
re-launching the training in fabricating and playing of Tambour. The course will
target youth and the general public and will be held per batch of ten (10)
participants.
11. The Executive Council has taken note of the activities to be organized to mark the
Emancipation of Slavery in Rodrigues on Monday 04 June 2018. A wreath laying
ceremony will be held at l’Union followed by another ceremony at Montagne
Cimetière where a cultural show consisting of acting of African dance and music
based on history of abolition of slavery will be demonstrated.
12. The Executive has taken note that a delegation from the Seychelles National Park
will visit Rodrigues as from 21st May 2018 in the context of the project “Gestion
Durable des Zones Cotières (GDZCOI)” of the Indian Ocean Commission countries.
