Jour du Souvenir à la Cathédrale St Louis Mgr Ian Ernest : « Il est facile de dire n’importe quoi et de rechercher la vengeance »

« The pernicious side effect of social media is replacing family and social interaction. Synthetic drugs are accessible even in play grounds”. C’est ce qu’a déclaré, Mgr Ian Ernest lors de la cérémonie du centenaire de l’Armistice, marquant la fin des combats de la Première Guerre mondiale le 1er novembre 1918, qui a été célébré avec beaucoup de recueillement en l’église St Clément à Curepipe.
A cette occasion, le président de la République par intérim, Barlen Vyapoory, le Premier ministre, Pravind Jugnauth, son épouse Kobita, le Deputy Prime Minister, Ivan Collendavelloo, entre autres, étaient présents.
Dans son homélie, l’Evêque de Port-Louis a rendu hommage à l’esprit d’endurance, de sacrifice, de loyauté et d’humilité de tous ceux qui ont participé à la Première Guerre mondiale. “ The legacy of the First World War is that it created an awareness about the nature of modern war: Friends, we are all involved and we are all vulnerable”, a-t-il soutenu.
Mgr Ian Ernest a mis l’accent sur le Jour du Souvenir, qui selon lui est l’occasion de renouveler l’engagement de travailler sans arrêt pour la justice et la paix avec énergie. “Peace is not just an absence of war, conflict or social unrest but is an activity which requires our attention and our energy. The concrete way of making our nation a peace-making nation is to all the stakeholders of our society to open ourselves to the costliest way of all, the way of sacrifice. Pointless, meaningless gestures to safeguard one’s own interests, political social and religious pretentiousness are not in the nature of authentic sacrifice,” a-t-il ajouté.
L’Evêque de Maurice a également laissé entendre qu’il est facile de dire n’importe quoi et de rechercher la vengeance. “ This temptation is strengthened today by social media. These media claim this strange notion that everyone must have an opinion about shamming is somehow an act of justice and righteousness”, a-t-il précisé.
Axant son intervention sur le riche héritage mutuel et de responsabilité que nous ont légué nos ancêtres, Mgr Ian Ernest a déclaré : “ We should work towards the consolidation of a nation that recognises the potential of one and all irrespective of ethnic considerations”.
Notons qu’il y a 100 ans jour pour jour, les armes se taisaient dans le monde et la France et les alliés gagnaient la guerre.
